Acid-Alkaline Balance – Part 2

The table below follows the Acid-Alkaline Balance Part 1 from the Spring blog.

Acidic foods slow down, inhibit or stop the detoxification process. They are also inflammatory and mucus forming.  Eating an acidic diet leads to congestion and inflammation.  Acidic diet can cause bone and muscle deterioration, kidney stones, and increase the risk of cancer, liver problems and heart disease.

 

Alkalizing foods 75-80% of diet

 

Most fresh vegetables and sea vegetables such as celery, broccoli, kale, spinach, peppers (green, yellow…) bananas, avocadoes, cucumber, chili, asparagus, Brussels sprouts, beets etc…, dulse, kelp, kombu, nori, wakame

 

Fermented foods such as apple cider vinegar, kefir, miso, yogurt

 

Fruits, and all berries

 

Alkalizing proteins:  all algae, spirulina, chlorella, etc…

 

Seeds and Nuts:  almonds and chestnuts, coconut water, flax, macademia, pine nuts, poppy, pumpkin, sesame, sunflower

 

Sprouted grains & grasses:  amaranth, barley, buckwheat, kamut, millet, oat groats, spelt, sprouts, most seeds

 

Grains:  quinoa, millet, amaranth

 

Sweeteners:  stevia, carob, raw honey, agave

 

Fats & oils:  ghee, olive & avocado oils

 

Spices: sea salt, cinnamon, curry, chili pepper, ginger, mustard, most herbs and spices

Alkalizing minerals:  calcium, potassium, magnesium, sodium, iron

 

Miscellaneous:  lecithin, probiotic cultures, fresh fruit juices, alkaline antioxidant, green tea, herbal tea, dandelion tea, ginseng tea, kombucha tea, aloe vera juice

 

Alkalizers:  cold shower, love and joy, hugs and laughter, calming exercises, fresh air and pure water

 
 

Acidifying foods 20-25% of diet

 

Fats and oils:  heated oils:  avocado, canola, corn, hemp, flax, lard, olive, safflower, sesame, sunflower, butter

 

Fruits:  most unripe or processed fruits – cranberries, unripe bananas

 

Dairy products:  butter, cow’s cheese, goat’s cheese, processed cheese, sheep’s cheese, milk, eggs

 

Sweeteners:  artificial sweeteners, sugar, barley malt, brown rice syrup, molasses, sucanat, pasteurized honey, maple syrup

 

Nuts & butters:  cashews, Brazil nuts, peanuts, peanut butter, pecans, pistachio, tahini, walnuts

 

Animal proteins:  all meats

 

Isolated proteins:  whey and soy

 

Pasta (white):  noodles, macaroni, spaghetti

 

Beans & legumes:  black beans, chick peas, green beans, kidney beans, lentils, lima beans, pinto beans, red beans, soy beans, soy milk, white beans

 

Drugs & chemicals:  chemicals, drugs, herbicides, psychedelic, pesticides

 

Alcohol:  beer, liquor, spirits, wine

 

Miscellaneous:  black tea, caffeine, chocolate, coffee, vinegar, ketchup, soy sauce, canned & processed foods, sauerkraut, tobacco, wheat germ, yeasts, high protein foods and supplements, soft drinks

 

Acidifying minerals:  sulfur, phosphorus, nitrogen, iodine, chlorine

 

Acidifyers:  lack of sleep, overwork, tension/stress, anger, jealousy, resentment
